Once the owner of the yacht decided to make a round-the-world trip, so the yacht was built with an eye on long-range transitions and a variety of climatic conditions right up to the ice latitudes. In addition to the completely closed logging, the presence of the steel hull also speaks about the important mission of the yacht and its serious nature.

The superstructure is made of aluminum. For a basis, one of the Dutch shipyards has taken the project of a sailing yacht. The project was finalized and changed in accordance with the wishes of the owner; the construction of the hull and the assembly of the yacht was carried out under project supervision at the shipyard in Nikolayev.

It is very valuable to have a reserve of power during voyages in remote areas, where there is no help from anywhere», explains the captain of the yacht.

THE OCEAN STAR HAS BEEN BUILT AS A HYBRID OF A SAILING AND MOTOR YACHT

The fuel reserve for the Ocean Star is 20 tons, so you can overcome up to 5 thousand miles in the absence of wind on the yacht. Although the boat is classified more like motor sailing, it also shows good speed under sails. Of course, it is not effective to go for tacking on such a heavy vessel, especially when it is fully loaded. However, this task was not set out initially. However, on passing courses and in a fresh breeze Ocean Star is confident and powerful, accelerating to 10–12 knots.

Three Kohler generators provide uninterrupted power for all systems on the move and during parking. Three 80-liter boilers are the source of hot water for all living quarters of the boat. The stock of fresh water is not very large (only 3 tons), but compensated by the presence of a desalination plant with a capacity of 220 l/h.

The Ocean Star uses an automated fuel filtration system with a 250-gallon fuel tank. In addition, the fuel can be pumped between tanks on different sides and, thus, use them as ballast on the fly under sail.

The navigation equipment of Ocean Star is an impressive list. It includes 3 chart-plotters, 2 radars; one of them is the top-level BridgeMaster with a detection distance of up to 95 miles. There are 3 GPS-receivers, echo sounders, AIS, satellite communication system and 2 autopilots in stock.

The yacht also have 3 stationary and 3 portable VHF stations and a HF radio station. We are as on a military aircraft all important systems are duplicated, even more than once, the captain comments on the principles of the yacht’s creation.

«Smaller tanks are filled quickly, and not in every marina the service for pumping dirty waters works regularly and qualitatively», explains the captain. There is an additional tank of 1 cubic meter for draining technical fluids, oils, etc.

The Castoldi water-jet boat 4,5 m long is used as a tender for the Ocean Star. «The tender is equipped with a 125 hp diesel engine, and this is another problem — if the traveling boat had an outboard motor, it would have to keep a gasoline reserve all the time», — the captain of the yacht explains the advantages of this choice.

THE RIGHT OF THE OCEAN STAR CONCEPT AND TECHNICAL FILLING IS CONFIRMED BY LIFE AND BY THE SEA – FOR SEVEN YEARS OF OPERATION ON THE YACHT, THERE WAS NOT ANY LARGE FAULT AND ANY FAILURE

To climb aboard the yacht is convenient on the Opacmare swing-and-slide ladder. If the Ocean Star is lagged to the dock, the length of the gangway is enough to get out on the pontoon through the starboard side. Mooring the stern, you can stand at a comfortable distance of 2–2.5 m from the pontoon. On the stern platform, there is also a convenient pullout ladder for swimming.

expensive, reliable, safe and optimal for long cruising.

Now a little bit about the way of life and the habitat on the Ocean Star board. The yacht comfortably accommodates 6 people — there are 3 cabins for them, each with its own bathroom. A dining room with a sofa and armchairs occupies the main part of the main salon; the control
post is located in front on the right behind the gangway leading to the «nest of wood grouse». From the stern cockpit, the main saloon is separated by an automatic sliding glass partition. Since there are almost no restrictions on the areas of navigation for Ocean Star, the air conditioning system of the yacht works both for cold and for heating, thanks to powerful fan coils. Over the years of the operation of the boat, this system has proved to be very effective and low-cost.

The crew, living in comfort, works better and more fun. The owner of the Ocean Star cherishes his team — at the disposal of the crew there are two double cabins, a single cabin is designed for the captain, and all rooms have a separate bathroom with a shower. The galley, like
the team zone, is also in the bow of the boat. A refrigerator, two freezers, a stove, an oven, a microwave, a dishwasher and a coffee machine are useful in long voyages.
